in the studio 03.23

It’s been a while since we’ve given an update on our little studio, so we thought we would share some of the exciting things that have been happening.

There have been a few big developments behind the scenes, the biggest being the arrival of not one but two new Rohde 130L kilns in December 2022, the best Christmas present we could have asked for! Thanks to the incredible team at Bluematchbox who organised everything for us and installed them both on the same day, with our two home studios being almost 30 miles apart this was no mean feat.

This takes our kiln capacity to three 130L kilns, plus we still have our original kiln from the Every Story early days (a tiny 30L!) which we now use for test pieces, or low temperature firings.

The arrival of the kilns now means that our home studios are fully equipped, previously we would work predominantly from our main studio.

It’s amazing to see our home studios come together and become fully functional. There are still a few finishing touches to be done like painting the floors, but we think we’ll wait for the warmer months before embarking on that task! More importantly, gone are the days of driving delicate ceramics along bumpy country roads to the kiln at our main studio. Everything we make at our home studios can be fired and despatched from there and we now have the extra capacity for running bespoke commissions alongside our own product line. Time to get those studio shelves filled up!

We’re over the moon to have been able to grow like we have, and that’s all thanks to you! Now we’ll be able to produce even more pieces and continue to develop new and exciting products.

The new year was also witness to a huge reorganise of our main studio, which halfway through felt like we were creating more chaos than clarity, but it soon came back together and everything was flowing better. We now have an area for reclaiming clay, organising glaze materials and space for drying pieces. The difference a good sort out makes to your focus is incredible.

We are also utilising our storage unit more efficiently thanks to lots of racking we have installed, making the most of every inch. We store a lot of packaging and bulk clay orders from our lovely suppliers, Potclays, Hotclays and Bath Potters. We usually order around 1 ton every few months, so it’s great to be able to keep it out of the way and stock up the studio storage as and when needed.

One of our favourite recent purchases were some magnetic, battery-powered lights which are motion sensor, so each shelf illuminates when you walk in the room. Very satisfying and we no longer need to hold a phone light in one hand and load a trolley with the other. It’s amazing how the little things can make such a difference!

So that’s all our news for now, we have lots of exciting things in the pipeline, including new product launches, so keep an eye on our social media for regular updates.
