Bespoke: Rosie & Ripe

Rosie of Rosie & Ripe has been a wonderful ‘Every Story’ customer for some years now. Her creativity is magical, and we’re so pleased that she’s chosen us to come along for the ride.

Rosie is a private chef providing one-of-a-kind catering. Her culinary prowess shines in her awe-inspiring dishes that look almost too beautiful to eat. Rosie loves to bring an element of theatre to her dishes, creating unique and memorable experiences for her customers to treasure.

We’ve had the pleasure of creating several bespoke pieces for Rosie over the years, the latest being a show-stopping Ikebana serving platter. With a distant vision in mind, we worked closely with Rosie to bring her idea to life - a piece that was not only fit for serving food but also for displaying a curated selection of flowers, herbs or foliage.

The design process began with interpreting Rosie’s ideas; she loved various elements from different pieces - specifically, the shape of our Mila Ikebana and the organic embossed texture of the Hana Ikebana. Work began on how we could combine these two aesthetics into one statement serving platter, perfect for displaying canapés.

Our largest serving platter to date, this unique piece was a colossal 55cm in diameter! We dusted off the calculator and crunched some numbers to ensure that this enormous piece would shrink down enough during the drying process so that it would actually fit in our kiln, and it did….just! To minimise handling, we made this piece directly on the kiln shelf, allowing us to place it in with ease.

The pretty ikebana sits pride of place in the middle of the dish, each of the holes a different size to ensure a mix of foliage can be used. Like a little mountain full of flowers, it’s surrounded by gently waved edges to keep precious canapés safe.

Seeing this unique piece emerge after the bisque fire was amazing and we couldn’t wait to apply the pebble glaze, which we knew would highlight the texture beautifully. This elegant, subtle glaze complements the shape without distracting from the stunning presentation or the canapés it’s meant to showcase.

We were overjoyed when we received photos of the platter in use on a beautiful sunny day - mouth watering canapés carefully arranged on a bed of herbs, with the prettiest wild flowers standing tall in the centre. Rosie has such an eye for presentation and boundless imagination, and we can’t wait to work with her on her next undoubtedly wonderful idea.
